TRIBUTE SONG TO DIANA IS TOP-SELLING SINGLE

Elton John's tribute song to Princess Diana was declared the world's biggest-selling single Tuesday after 31.8 million copies had been distributed around the globe.

The Guinness Book of Records said "A Candle in the Wind" had overtaken the previous global record seller, Bing Crosby's "White Christmas," which has sold an estimated 30 million copies worldwide.

"Candle in the Wind," which reduced millions to tears during Diana's funeral last month, took just 37 days to beat Crosby's record, set over the 55 years since his record's release.

The song, originally dedicated to Marilyn Monroe, was rewritten by Elton John and his co-writer, Bernie Taupin, for the funeral.
