MAN FATALLY SHOT IN SPAT OVER KEYS; SUSPECT ARRESTED

A night of drinking and then an argument over keys to an Allentown building ended in a fatal shooting early today, authorities said.

The victim was identified this afternoon as Delquince Quarles, 31, of Butler Avenue. Police said Connie D. Brown, 30, shot Quarles, an acquaintance, in the chest after Quarles refused to give him the keys to 11 North St., where Brown lives and works.

When investigators arrived at 12:11 a.m. at the building, which houses a car stereo and detail shop, they found two men near the man's body and began questioning them.

Each accused the other of killing the man, according to Capt. Joseph Riga, chief of the Homicide Bureau.

Detectives returned to Buffalo Police Headquarters with the men and took statements from them. Brown later confessed to the killing, police said.

Police said the men had been drinking.

Brown was charged with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon, a handgun.
