Gordon A. Stumpf, 77, of Amherst, a retired sales representative, died unexpectedly Sunday (Oct. 19, 1997) while vacationing with his wife in Montreal.
Born in Buffalo, he earned a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Michigan. A captain in the U.S. Army during World War II, he was stationed in England as a general's aide.
He was a manufacturer's representative for C.V. Stevens Inc., for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He then worked in car sales for Towne Buick, retiring in 1994.
He logged many hours as an amateur pilot during the 1950s and 1960s. He was a member of the Amherst Senior Citizens.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Ruth L. Blacker; two daughters, Susan Saur of Orchard Park and Nancy Margerum of Chazy; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1080 Main St.
