President Boris N. Yeltsin "does not rule out" going to Canada in December to attend the signing of a world ban on land mines, Itar-Tass news agency quoted the Kremlin leader as saying today.

Tass quoted Yeltsin as telling reporters that they should "study very attentively" a communique to be issued later in the day on his talks with visiting Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien.

Yeltsin has backed the ban, but the Kremlin has said there's no date fixed for Russia to join it.
