The Tonawanda City School Board has waived large space usage fees for the YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club and other groups consisting primarily of district students and their families -- provided they use the facilities during regular hours.
Trustees are interested in making the procedure more "user-friendly," Superintendent James C. Holler said.
The board's action removes the $75 fee for more than three hours and $37.50 for less than three hours that the organizations have been paying for the auditoriums, cafeterias, pools, outdoor facilities and the Clinton Small Football Stadium.
Groups would still be charged a $30 an hour fee if an event requires a custodian to work overtime. The custodial staff is normally present on weekdays and on Saturday mornings, when sports events are taking place at the high school.
The hourly custodial fee and the $75 usage fee were established for all organizations this summer when the board began operating on a contingency budget. Last month the board voted to modify the fee structure by halving the large space charge for users of zero to three hours.
