The Counting Crows, featuring lead singer Adam Duritz, gained a huge following four years ago with the smash hit "Mr. Jones." The band remains a potent force in contemporary music but has had a difficult time making it to Buffalo.
The Crows canceled three previous shows for this area, but the alternative rock band apparently will make it this time. The Counting Crows perform at 8 p.m. Friday in the Agri-Center on the Erie County Fairgrounds, South Park Avenue near Quinby Drive, Town of Hamburg.
Bill Bellamy first gained fame as a music personality on MTV. He still appears on the music video network but has branched out into movie acting. At 8 p.m. Saturday, Bellamy will bring his stand-up comedy act to Alumni Arena on the University at Buffalo North Campus in Amherst.
Leon Redbone, who plays blues and folk music in addition to telling stories, will appear at 8 p.m Tuesday in the Tralfamadore Cafe. Letters to Cleo, an alternative band, will play the Tralf at 8 p.m. Wednesday, while Los Caribes, a salsa and jazz band, will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Buffalo Song Project Songwriter Showcase will feature local talent, Mike Meldrum, Jim Whitford, Alex Manias, Tom Stahl and Mike Oliver, beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday in Nietzsche's, 248 Allen St.
Tea Party will bring alternative rock to the Ogden Street Concert Hall, 652 S. Ogden St., at 9 p.m. Friday.
