Edgerrin James, Miami, ran for 271 yards, the best rushing performance in Hurricanes' history, and scored three TDs, in a 45-44 double overtime win over Boston College.

Chris Boden, Villanova, threw for a school-record 409 yards on 26-for-41 passing, including five TD tosses, as the Wildcats beat Richmond, 40-29.

Ricky Williams, Texas, had his second consecutive 200-yard game, gaining 238 yards on 23 carries with two TDs in the Longhorns' 37-29 loss to Missouri.

Chris Menick, Harvard, rushed for 261 yards, second-most in school history, and three TDs in the Crimson's 52-24 win over Holy Cross.

Peyton Manning, Tennessee, was 23 of 37 for 304 yards (his seventh consecutive game over 300 yards) and three TDs in the Volunteers' 38-21 win over Alabama.

Giovanni Carmazzi, Hofstra, passed for three TDs and 385 yards and ran for two scores as the Flying Dutchmen defeated Lehigh, 45-38.

Syracuse scorer

Syracuse's Quinton Spotwood scored three times, including a 71-yarder for his NCAA record-tying fourth punt return score of the season, in the Orangemen's 60-7 victory over Temple.

Stepping in

Florida's Jesse Palmer, a freshman, was 8 of 14 for 92 yards and fifth-year senior walk-on Noah Brindise 5 of 11 for 69 yards in Florida's 24-10 win over Auburn. Starting quarterback Doug Johnson had been suspended for a team rules violation.


Iowa's Tavian Banks went over the 1,000-yard mark on only his 125th carry of the season, the fastest in NCAA history, but the Hawkeyes lost to Michigan, 28-24. Banks finished with 99 yards.

Strong in defeat

Minnesota's Adam Bailey made five field goals -- a school record -- of 52, 23, 32, 50 and 33 yards in a 16-15 loss to Penn State. . . . Kevin Faulk rushed for 172 yards and two TDs on 25 carries for LSU in a 36-21 loss to Mississippi.
