I have to agree with Dan Loncto in his assessment of the column criticizing his tardiness in printing and sending out race results. You can add the Louisville (Ky.) Courier Journal, which sponsors the Kentucky Derby Mini-Marathon each year and prints the names of all finishers their place and time. This race draws over 5,000 runners each year and the local newspaper has been promoting this race for the last 24 years, leading to the large participation and the large number of spectators.
The Buffalo News does very little in the promotion of any race, including the marathon, of which they are a sponsor. They cut the running column to every other week during the winter months when many local runners are training for the marathon and could possibly use helpful tips.
Before The News criticizes anyone, it should look in the mirror first and then thank Dan Loncto and the other race directors for their hard work in promoting an organizing local races.
