A teen-ager was arrested Saturday after four gunshots were fired from a passing car at a woman and her 4-year-old daughter, Detective Carl Berak said.

Neither the woman nor her daughter was injured, Berak and Detective William Thomson said.

James Schmahl, 17, of 1628 Falls St. was apprehended on the 400 block of 16th Street at about 3 p.m., about 70 minutes after the shooting, detectives said.

He was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment. Jakia Walker, 22, of Falls Street said Schmahl, with whom she had had problems in early Saturday, pulled up in a car while she was walking with her daughter on the 1900 block on Niagara Street.

She said he pulled out what appeared to be a small-caliber handgun and fired four shots at them, missing each time, and then drove off, Berak said.

Berak said the shooting still was under investigation.
