Buffalo police were conducting an internal investigation into a high speed chase that resulted in a suspect being hit by a police car Saturday.

The suspect suffered a minor knee laceration and was not seriously injured, according to Deputy Police Commissioner John R. Battle.

Police would not reveal the suspect's name or the charges against him.

The man was reportedly hit after he left his car near the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Eggert Road.

Police said he was struck after a high speed chase took them from Buffalo into Cheektowaga, where the chase was called off.

Battle said the suspect apparently is from Buffalo and was attempting to return to the city when he again was spotted by police officers.

At some point, the man left his car and reportedly was crossing the street when he was hit by a police car. Several officers reported to the scene.

Battle reviewed a local television station's videotape of the accident and said the matter would be investigated to determine if proper police procedures were followed.

He said police normally conduct an internal investigation after a high speed chase.
