A grandson of Austria's last emperor wed a German duchess Saturday in a ceremony attended by leading members of the world's nobility.
More than 500 guests of noble lineage turned out in St. Stephen's Basilica to see Georg von Hapsburg -- archduke of Austria and grandson of Emperor Charles I -- wed Duchess Eilika Helene Jutta Clementine von Oldenburg in a ceremony carried live on Hungarian television.
About 2,000 Hungarians and curious tourists gathered outside the ornate 19th-century basilica for a glimpse, getting a big wave from the newlyweds after the ceremony.
The bride, 25, wore a high-necked white dress and a veil worn by her great-grandmother in 1896. The groom, 32, is now a Hungarian citizen but grew up in Germany, the Hapsburg base for a 700-year dynasty that dominated much of Europe until Charles I abdicated in 1918.
