George J. Dotterweich, 78, of Amherst, former president of Direct Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company, died Thursday (Oct. 16, 1997) at Mitchell Campus of Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a brief illness.
After Direct Laboratories was sold in 1970, Dotterweich became regional sales manager of Invenex Laboratories.
He was a captain in the Quartermaster Corps of the New York State Guard, serving at the 65th Armory during World War II.
During the 1950s, he served on the board of trustees of what was then Rosary Hill College. For 40 years, he had been a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and sang in the choir.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Elizabeth Ann Clark; four daughters, Caroline E. Leighton of Williamsville, Patricia M. Thuman of Clarence, Christine T. Benzino of Amherst and Rosemary Hinshaw of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, George A. of East Aurora; 12 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Private services were held in the Newman Center, Amherst.[dknnn]
