Senior Mike Domm scored both goals for the Fredonia State men's soccer team in a 2-0 victory over homestanding Oswego Saturday that clinched a third consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference championship for the Blue Devils.
Fredonia (12-3, 8-0) is ranked 20th in the nation among Division III teams.
Domm's first goal, scored 15 minutes into the match, came on an assist by Matt Albrecht (City Honors) and the second, scored 10 minutes into the second half, was assisted by Mike Wasielewski (Lake Shore). Goalkeeper Dave Merrick picked up the shutout with five saves.
Simon Sly netted his second goal of the game 14 minutes into overtime to lead Niagara to a 2-1 victory at Oneonta, the Purple Eagles' fourth win in five starts.
Teammate Tony Griffiths set up the goal by heading the ball over charging Oneonta goalkeeper Stephen Mott from 10 yards out. Sly closed from the right side and put the ball into a vacated net to lift Niagara to 5-8-2.
Oneonta's Todd Meaker opened the scoring 7:45 into the match, before Sly, who hails from Bristol, England, connected on a 20-yard shot with less than nine minutes to play before halftime.
Carl Fix (Alden) scored a goal and added an assist to help Erie CC hand visiting Corning CC a 3-1 defeat. Paul Casill (Lancaster) and Adam Nitterauer had the other goals as the Kats (9-4-1) out shot Corning, 20-7.
Cortland State scored three of its goals in the second half to beat Buffalo State, 4-0. he Bengals are 6-7 overall and 3-5 in the SUNYAC.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Jennifer Rera (Tonawanda) made 11 saves for Buffalo State in an 8-0 loss to Cortland State that dropped the Bengals to 0-8 in the conference and 2-11 overall.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Sophomore Jodie Bowers (Sweet Home) had 17 digs for Niagara in a 15-9, 5-15, 16-14, 15-13 MAAC loss to Loyola. The Purple Eagles are 5-15, 1-6.
