Police officials have promoted one officer to the rank of detective and have rehired the last of the seven officers who were laid off early last year because of city budget problems.
Officer Ted Weed, 34, was made a detective with the Criminal Intelligence Unit early last week, filling in the vacancy left by Detective Joseph Morrison's recent promotion to lieutenant.
Officer Roger Freeman, 25, was recalled to work the afternoon shift as a patrolman, 10 months after he and six other officers were laid off by the city. Freeman has been working as a Niagara County sheriff's deputy since early 1996. He fills in the patrol slot vacated when Officer Thomas Prucnal was promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
