A Genesee man was committed to the Potter County Jail Friday, accused of fatally shooting a man he said came to his home and threatened him.
Roger E. Fish Jr., 25, of 131 Shongo St., was charged with first-degree murder, involuntary and voluntary manslaughter, aggravated and simple assault and recklessly endangering another in the death of James D. Manny, 29, of Mills.
Coudersport state police said Manny arrived at Fish's home about 11:30 p.m. Thursday and "made threatening statements." Fish then "produced a shotgun and fired one round," hitting Manny in the chest, said Trooper William L. Dawson. Troopers said Manny was unarmed.
Potter County Coroner Kevin Dusenbury Sr. pronounced Manny dead at 1 a.m. Friday. Coudersport District Magistrate Michelle Tasillo ordered Fish held without bail for further proceedings.
Genesee is on the New York state line, 10 miles south of Wellsville; Mills is several miles east of Genesee.
