Henry L. Nuszkowski, who owned and operated the Gay Spirits Liquor store in Ellicottville for 25 years, died Thursday (Oct. 16, 1997) at his home after a long illness. He was 72.
Nuszkowski, who worked at the store until becoming ill, previously worked at the Chevrolet plant in Buffalo.
The Ellicottville native served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
In 1983 he became one of the first Eucharistic ministers of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church. He also was a member of Ellicottville American Legion Post 659, the Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
His first wife, the former Hazel Lutz died in 1979. In 1981 he married the former Dorothy Geiger, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Larry of Great Valley; a daughter, Lynn Cox of Midland, Mich.; two stepsons, Douglas Geiger and Gregory Geiger; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Oehlman; two brothers, Bernard of Machias and Wallace; a sister, Wanda Nuszkowski of Machias; three grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday at the Holy Name of Mary Church, 8 Jefferson St., Ellicottville.
