DRIVER, STUDENT KILLED IN BUS-TRUCK CRASH

A bus carrying a high school volleyball team home from a match collided with a tractor-trailer on a highway in the mountains of western North Carolina, killing the bus driver and one student.

The Highway Patrol said the tractor-trailer was traveling down a steep hill on U.S. Highway 64 outside Franklin when it crossed the center line and collided with the bus. The bus was carrying the Hayesville High School volleyball team home from a match in Brevard. Eight other passengers were treated for various injuries.
