Stanley Nowacki, owner of a Depew furniture and upholstery store, brought home a title from the AAU Powerlifting Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., last month.

Nowacki has had a record-setting year in the 181-pound, natural class. His 565-pound deadlift this year set a national record, and he owns state records in the squat, bench and "total" events.

This year Nowacki has taken first place in the UB Open, the Western New York and the New York State powerlifting championships, and the state bench press championship.

BASKETBALL: Men's leagues are forming at Maryvale High School on Monday nights. Call 839-9330.

DARTS: The seventh annual Debbie DeMaria Mixed Doubles Tournament, a benefit for the cardiology department at Children's Hospital, is 1 p.m. Sunday at Charlie O'Brien's, 865 Elk St. in Buffalo. The cost is $25 per team. Call 823-0068.

SOCCER: The Niagara PAL Soccer Club holds travel registration on Nov. 15 at the PAL office, 9501 Colvin Blvd., Niagara Falls. Times are 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Call 283-7715, 283-9525 or 297-8125. . . . The Lakewood Family YMCA hosts and indoor tournament for players 14 and under on Nov. 22. SWIMMING: The Ken-Ton YMCA needs boys and girls ages 5-18 for the Cobras swim team. Meets begin Nov. 8 and participants must be YMCA members. Call 874-5051.

WEIGHTLIFTING: Classes for teen-agers 13-19 will be held at the Ken-Ton YMCA starting Oct. 27. One-hour sessions covering basic elements of lifting and cardiovascular workouts will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5 p.m. Call 874-5051.
