TRANSIENT WITH CRIMINAL HISTORY KIDNAPS, ASSAULTS 4-YEAR-OLD GIRL

A 4-year-old girl is in serious condition at a south Florida hospital after being kidnapped, taken to a filthy drug den, assaulted and given a pipe to smoke crack cocaine, police said Wednesday.

The child was found foaming at the mouth and disoriented at the abandoned house, police spokeswoman Sandra King said.

Jeffrey Lee Robinson, 44, a transient, was charged with kidnapping, indecent assault on a child and aggravated child abuse. Police said he had an extensive criminal history including at least three arrests for sexual assaults on children.

The child was missing from her Pompano Beach home for about 20 minutes Tuesday before relatives and neighbors found her at the nearby crack den, Ms. King said.

Neighbors identified the suspect and police caught him a short time later, Ms. King said.

Robinson told investigators he had given coins to a group of children and they had scattered, leaving him with the 4-year-old, who he took into the crack house, she said.

"He admitted that someone gave the child a crack pipe, which she smoked from," she said. "He also admitted that he allowed the child to fondle him. This is his confession."
