The City of North Tonawanda Wednesday accepted offers totaling $194,790 for 24 parcels of property on which $788,000 in delinquent taxes had accrued.
A standing-room crowd of more than 100 filled the Council Chamber in City Hall and overflowed into the hallway.
The properties on the auction block included a marina, a boarded-up hotel, an old school, two former bars, a piece of commercial property, six houses and some vacant lots.
Lockport man charged in beating
LOCKPORT -- Elando L. Cheese, 25, of 5524 Twilight Lane, Wednesday was accused of helping another man beat a Willow Street resident repeatedly over the head with a steel ratchet, Officer Paul Zapp said.
Cheese was charged with second-degree assault at 9:30 p.m. on Washburn Street, Zapp said. Cheese and a second man knocked on the door of Christopher Szell's Willow Street home Wednesday and pulled Szell out of the house when he answered the door, allowing the second suspect, still being sought, to strike Szell over the head with the ratchet, Zapp said.
