The Lackawanna Planning and Development Board officially has approved a 30-acre site for a proposed $98 million plant for the manufacture of fiberboard, Mayor Kathleen M. Staniszewski announced today.
CanFibre U.S. Ltd. plans to purchase the site on North Steelawanna Avenue Extension from the city for a 150,000-square-foot plant and two 30,000-square-foot storage buildings.
The manufacturing process involves converting waste wood into medium-density fiberboard.
"We are quite excited about this project," Ms. Staniszewski said. "This company will invest over $98 million and bring approximately 100 new jobs to our community."
Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring. The planning board met Thursday night.
