Four community development forums on the proposed community-owned cooperative supermarket at East Ferry Street and Fillmore Avenue will be held Friday in the Classroom Building at Buffalo State College.
The forums, part of a two-day drive to recruit members and expand awareness of the proposed "Our Market," will begin at 9 a.m. in Room B109 with a discussion of "Black Political Culture and Our Market."
"Research and Community Revitalization" will be the topic during a brown bag lunch at noon in Room B308.
"Our Market Confronting Racial and Ethnic Underdevelopment through Strategic Development" will be discussed at 1 p.m. in Room B119, followed by "Community Ownership and Enterprise Development" at 2 p.m. in the same room.
A town meeting at 7 p.m. Friday in Evening Star Church at 1552 Fillmore Ave. will be followed by a farmers' market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Fillmore and Woodlawn avenues, with a "speak out" at noon.
An "Our Market" membership meeting will be held at 3 p.m. in the Community Action Organization, 735 Humboldt Parkway, following an African-Brazilian martial arts demonstration and Buffalo Inner City Ballet performance, which will start at 2 p.m.
A cooperative spaghetti dinner will begin at 5 p.m. in the Community Action Organization, and a mini-buffet fund-raiser, featuring the Tony Gloster Jazz Ensemble, is scheduled from 8 to 11 p.m. in O'Boys Restaurant, 3250 Bailey Ave. Admission to the fund-raiser is $15; $10 for students with identification.
