CREDIT CARD SPREE NETS MAN 5 YEARS' PROBATION

A former Lockport man, accused of using his deceased mother's Master Card to go on a two-month spending spree at eight local businesses, was sentenced to a probation term of five years and ordered to make restitution Wednesday by County Judge Charles J. Hannigan.

Michael A. White, 50, now of 3071 Lockport-Olcott Road, Newfane, who pleaded guilty July 15 to first-degree scheme to defraud, must pay back $8,600.

The incidents, between December 1995 and February 1996, involved purchases of more than $1,000 worth of merchandise at Wal-Mart in addition to bowling equipment at South Transit Lanes and purchases from several other nearby stores, starting after the Dec. 3, 1995, death of his mother, Catherine H. White.
