A bargain indeed! A recent letter from a parent rationalized his school tax bill of $1,700 was a good deal because it only amounted to 68 cents per child per hour -- less than the cost of a baby sitter. The problem, of course, is that his tax bill (assuming his school district spends about $8,500 per pupil) only amounts to about 10 percent of what it costs the taxpayer to educate his children.
Who wouldn't want a service from government that only costs them 10 percent of the actual cost? Bring on health care, better transportation, more entertainment, sports facilities, libraries and recreation.
