FREDONIA -- On a summery night in October, members of the Fredonia Village Board had Christmas in mind.

The board Monday authorized the Police Department to help in the staging of the annual Community Christmas Sharing With Children Santa Claus Parade, at noon Nov. 22.

The board also gave permission for the Fredonia Chamber of Commerce to use the gazebo in Barker Common for the annual "Christmas in the Park" celebration on Dec. 6.

In other business, the board:

Approved a law that will allow changes in the traffic and parking code to be made by resolution, instead of law.

As a result, public hearings will not be mandatory and changes can be made in little time. Laws approved by the board also have to be published in a newspaper and filed with the state secretary of state.

Approved a one-week lease with Westfalia Separator Inc. of Northvale, N.J., for a new centrifuge at the wastewater-treatment plant. The village will pay only for insurance and service charges.

"If it works, we will consider replacing one of our centrifuges," Mayor Frank Pagano said.

Approved spending $3,765 to fence the water-filtration plant. Armor Fence Co. of Western New York Inc. will provide and install the fence.
