Malabar Man and Lord Stormont will challenge each other for the 3-year-old trotting championship and Trotter of the Year title when they meet in a Breeders Crown race Oct. 24 at Mohawk Raceway in Campbellville, Ont.
A victory by either in the Breeders Crown Colt and Gelding Trot would make him a serious candidate for Harness Horse of the Year.
Another Horse of the Year contender is Western Dreamer, who is expected to compete in the final of the 3-year-old Colt and Gelding Pace. First however, Western Dreamer, the eighth winner of the Triple Crown of Pacing and first since Ralph Hanover in 1983, must survive an elimination heat.
Of the eight Breeders Crown races Oct. 24, seven will have elimination heats. The only exception is the Colt and Gelding Trot, which drew nine starters.
