The Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association has awarded college scholarships to high school seniors Alice Zebracki of Buffalo, James Headd of West Seneca, Kristyn Sims of Ridgeway, Ont., and Jason Spencer of Mankato, Minn.

Alumni president Larry Playfair said the scholarships -- financed by the annual "Legends" game, alumni golf tournament and corporate sponsors Ingram Micro and MBNA -- provide $2,000 per year for four years. Applications for the 1998 grants will be available in February.

BASKETBALL OFFICIALS: Clinics for new candidates to join the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials Board 53, will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21, and Monday, Oct. 27, at 6:30 p.m. at JFK High School, 305 Cayuga Creek Road, Cheektowaga. FLOOR HOCKEY: Elite men's league needs teams for Tuesday nights and Saturday nights at Scoops All-Sport. Call 694-6743.

ICE SKATING: Classes for ages 3-16 in basic figure skating (Mondays at 6:45 p.m.) and power skating for hockey (Fridays at 6:30 p.m.) have begun at Holiday Twin Rinks, 3465 Broadway. Open figure skating practice time will be available at the Cheektowaga Recreation Center Arena on Ridge Park Avenue Mondays from 3 to 4:50 p.m. Admission is $4 for residents, $6 for others.

RACQUETBALL: The second session of the Western New York Racquetball Association Junior Development Program will start Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Buffalo Athletic Club's Eastern Hills facility. Cost for six two-hour sessions is $30 per student, ages 8-18. Call Greg Maliken at 838-5860 or 857-7634.

SOCCER: Tryouts for the Germania boys under-16 team will be held Saturday at Williamsville North High School from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. Call 883-4423.
