William H. Schlifke, a retired dean at Jamestown Community College, died Friday (Oct. 10, 1997) in Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa. He was 79.
An Aldren Avenue resident and a native of Buffalo, Schlifke lived in Jamestown since 1950. He also had a residence in Clemont, Fla.
A graduate of Technical High School in Buffalo and the University of Buffalo, he earned a bachelor's degree in engineering and a master's degree in education.
Schlifke was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 2nd Armored Division in Europe. He attained the rank of major.
Before moving to Jamestown in 1950, Schlifke taught at the University of Buffalo and Erie County Technical Institute. He retired from JCC in 1975 and was named professor emeritus.
Survivors include his wife, the former Georgia Barth, and a son, William H. Jr. of Bolton, Vt.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 724 Delaware Ave. Inurnment of his ashes will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Lakewood.
