Duane R. Havers of 18th Street died Thursday (Oct. 9, 1997) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 45.

An Allegany native, Havers moved to Niagara Falls in 1984. He was assistant manager for Uni-Mart for a few years and retired because of illness in 1991. He also worked at several stables as a groomer for harness-racing horses.

Havers was a bingo caller at the bingo hall of St. Mary's of the Cataract Catholic Church. He was a member of Council 247, Knights of Columbus, and served as donation director of the Variety Club Telethon.

Survivors include his father, Kirk of Lockport; a brother, Kirk J. of Avon Park, Fla.; and a friend, Leigh Bergeron.

A funeral will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St. Burial arrangements are incomplete.
