Daniel M. Kurdziel, 41, a performance artist and musician whose Shock Box! Studios projects were noted for being "always near or over the edge," died Saturday (Oct. 11, 1997) after running a 5-mile race in Ellicottville.
Born in Buffalo, he was a 1974 graduate of Bishop Turner High School and attended the University at Buffalo.
He was employed by People, Inc. and worked with developmentally disabled adults. He also was involved in Beats Me, a musical group composed of developmentally disabled players who perform in area schools.
His installations were a regular feature of the annual Artists and Models Ball. In 1996, he presented himself as a carnival barker who enticed party-goers into a freak-show maze. He also exhibited his work regularly at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center and performed at the Continental.
Survivors include his wife of 11 year, the former Donna Hybicki; his parents, Daniel and Geraldine of Cheektowaga; and a sister, Lynne Kurdziel-Formato.
Services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Buszka Funeral Home, 2005 Clinton St.
