MAN HELD IN BEATING OF WOMAN

A man is facing charges of beating a woman and stealing a dog.

Michael J. Kelly, 20, of 1028 South Ave. was arrested at 9:10 p.m. Friday after Detectives William Thomson and Carl Berak, who were looking for him in the beating case, found him hiding in a closet in his apartment after they heard a dog barking inside.

It turned out the 6-month-old pit bull had been stolen last Sunday.

Kelly was charged with assault and criminal mischief in an attack on Dana DiLaura, 23, of Ferry Avenue at 1:30 a.m. Sept. 28 at 20th Street and Ferry Avenue.

He also was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property for allegedly stealing the pit bull from Jennifer Tobias, 24, of 23rd Street, Thomson said.
