HAMED WINS IN SEVEN TO KEEP FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE

Unbeaten British fighter Naseem Hamed (27-0) made his eighth successful defense of his WBO featherweight title, stopping Jose Badillo (20-2) of Puerto Rico in the seventh round of a fight in Sheffield, England.

In Cottbus, Germany, Artur Grigorian (23-0) of Uzbekhistan pounded American David Armstrong (11-2) and won a unanimous decision to retain his WBO lightweight title.

In Erlanger, Ky., Rocky Phillips (20-3) scored an upset victory by breaking the jaw of former champion Michael Dokes (53-6-2) with one second left in the second round of their heavyweight fight. Dokes, 39, hadn't had a fight in four years. He weighed in at 282 pounds.
