DUNCAN SCORES 19 POINTS IN FIRST NBA ENCOUNTER

Tim Duncan, the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, scored 19 points on 9-for-13 shooting as the San Antonio Spurs opened the exhibition season with a 99-87 victory over the Washington Wizards.

David Robinson, returning after missing almost all of last season with injuries, added 17 points for San Antonio.

Duncan showed the kind of versatility that made him the consensus national collegiate player of the year last season at Wake Forest. He was 5 for 5 from the field in the first half.
