Eight people were hurt Saturday evening in a chain-reaction collision after a motorist slowed down to look at a brush fire along the Thruway in Cheektowaga.
None of the victims was believed to be seriously hurt in the 6:15 p.m. three-car crash on the eastbound Thruway near the Walden Avenue exit, Trooper Elton Mitchell said.
Mitchell said Esther Anderson, 68, of Buffalo, slowed her car to look at the fire.
"Her car was hit by the second car, and the third car hit the second car," he said.
The driver of the second car, Evette Hernandez, 17, of Buffalo, and one of five passengers -- Nicholas Cassiano, 14 -- were not injured. Robert Prince and Robert Wilson, both 12, were treated in Children's Hospital. Karen Smith and Jessie Hughes, both 17, were treated in Erie County Medical Center.
The driver of the third car, James Shank, 29, of Angola, was treated in Mercy Hospital with his wife, Jennifer, 27; daughter, Jessica, 8; and son, James, 12 months.
No charges were filed.
