Canadian-owned Western Dreamer won the Messenger Stakes at The Meadows to become the first standardbred to win pacing's triple crown in 14 years. Western Dreamer, owned by Dan, Matt and Pat Daly of Hamilton, Ontario, finished four lengths ahead of runner-up Dream Away, another Canadian-owned horse. Arturo was third.

Driven by Canadian Mike Lachance, Western Dreamer took the lead before the opening quarter and was never threatened for the rest of the mile.
