MAN HELD IN NEAR MISS WITH POLICE

A Fredonia man was accused of drunken driving Thursday after he almost drove into the back of another car and then swerved, nearly striking an oncoming patrol car.

Chautauqua County Sheriff's officers said Randall M. Grimm, 44, of 38 Lambert St. was southbound on Route 60 at a high rate of speed just before 6 p.m. when he came up behind another car. Grimm's car nearly hit the back of the car, then swerved into the path of the patrol car.

Deputies stopped Grimm and charged him with driving while intoxicated, failure to keep right, having a broken windshield and no proof of insurance. He will appear in Town of Pomfret Court.
