BASEBALL BAT SLAYING SUSPECT HELD

A man accused in the baseball bat slaying of a West Side resident was being held without bail Friday in the Erie County Holding Center on a charge or second-degree murder.

David A. Williams, 30, of Northumberland Avenue originally was charged with assault in the attack on Rajshie Tompkins, 23, of Jersey Street at 4 a.m. Thursday during a fight on Washington Street near Tupper Street following a fight at the Squeeze bar on Main Street.

But after Tompkins died a little more than 12 hours later at the Erie County Medical Center, a murder charge was filed against Williams, who is accused of hitting Tompkins several times in the head with a baseball bat.
