AMERKS IN ARENA ON SUNDAY

The Rochester Americans will host a "home" game in Buffalo for the first time since 1987 Sunday evening when they meet the Syracuse Crunch in an American Hockey League game at Marine Midland Arena. Game time is 6 p.m.

It will be the "home opener" for the American Hockey League affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. The Amerks' home arena, the Rochester War Memorial, is undergoing extensive renovations and will reopen for team's second home game, Nov. 1 against the Crunch.

Rochester lost, 2-1, Friday night to the Hamilton Bulldogs in Copps Coliseum and plays tonight at Syracuse before the game at the Arena.

Rochester won its season opener at Albany, 2-1, on Oct. 4 before losing at Philadelphia, 5-1, Wednesday night.

The Amerks' roster includes Sabres prospects Vaclav Varada, Denis Hamel, Daniel Bienveneu, Sergei Klimentiev, Shayne Wright and Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre as well as goalie Martin Biron, a former No. 1 pick.

The Crunch is a Vancouver Canucks affiliate.
