WINTER SURVIVAL SKILLS TO BE SHOWN AT OLD FORT

Winter survival skills used during the frontier era will be demonstrated this weekend at Old Fort Niagara's Living History Days.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, costumed volunteers will demonstrate the making of soap and apple butter, smoking meat and making jerky, dyeing cloth, and casting shot.

A local re-enactment group called Brant's Volunteers will recreate frontier fur trading in the fort's trade room. Musket and rifle firing demonstrations will punctuate the weekend.
