A man's joking remark about a mail bomb led authorities to evacuate a post office and several city blocks while explosives experts examined a small package. They found it contained nothing but a wooden model fishing boat.
It started when a Georgia man called a friend in Auburn to see if she had received a package he had sent by certified mail. Since she wasn't home to sign for it, the package had been returned to the post office.
The woman asked what was in the package, and when the man joked that it was a bomb, the woman called the police. That led to Wednesday's evacuation.
Authorities wouldn't reveal the name of the sender or the recipient. Police said no charges would be filed.
