Daniel Carr and Chris Maglo of Jamestown are among 20 contestants who will have a shot at winning $1 million this weekend during a Montreal Canadiens' home game.

Carr, Maglo and the other finalists in the Molson Shoot for the Gold promotion will take part in an afternoon shoot-out at the ice of the Molson Centre. One finalist will return Saturday night between periods of the Canadiens' game with the Philadelphia Flyers. The contestant gets a single shot from center ice that must slide through a small opening in the goal mouth to make him an instant millionaire.

AWARDS DINNER: Brian McFarlane, an author and former host of TV's "Hockey Night in Canada," will be guest speaker at the Theatre of Youth's awards dinner, Wednesday at the Calumet Arts Cafe. McFarlane's father, Leslie McFarlane, is the author of the Hardy Boys Mystery Series, under the pen name Franklin W. Dixon. Tickets for the event, which runs 7-9 p.m., are $30 per person, $50 per couple, through the theater at 856-4410.

BASEBALL: The Buffalo School of Baseball is taking registrations for hitting leagues in which six-player teams compete for nine weeks. Sessions for high school baseball and softball players are Sundays, starting Nov. 2. Little League players will play on Tuesdays, starting Nov. 4. The fee is $55 per player. SOCCER: Upstate United Soccer Club in Depew seeks players (under-10 to under-16) and experienced coaches for the 1998 summer travel season.
