A 2-year-old boy was killed when his father accidentally struck him with the family car in the driveway, state police said Thursday.
Michael G. Lyga wandered in front of the car in the driveway while Michael Lyga, 23, was trying to drive it onto two ramps in the driveway to make repairs Wednesday morning, troopers said.
The car lurched forward and drove over the ramps, striking and killing the boy, troopers said.
He had massive head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, in a rural area between the villages of Herkimer and Middleville, about 70 miles northwest of Albany. While police are still investigating, the death was ruled accidental.
