Carl J. Mitchell Sr., 74, a retired Spaulding Fiber Co. employee, died Tuesday (Oct. 7, 1997) in his City of Tonawanda home.
Born in Ogdensburg, he served in the Marine Corps in World War II in the Caribbean and the Pacific. A resident of the Tonawandas since 1947, he worked at Spaulding Fiber for 30 years, retiring in 1988.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, the former Sandra Nichols; four sons, Dennis and William, both of North Tonawanda, Patrick of Connecticut and Carl Jr. of Wheatfield; three daughters, Linda of Colorado, Karen Allen of Wolcott and Margaret of Amherst; five stepchildren, Shari Kogut and Scott Verrall of the City of Tonawanda, Kevin Verrall of West Seneca, Kristin Helfeldt of North Tonawanda and Eon Verrall of St. Louis; a brother, Thomas of Ogdensburg; two sisters, Mary Wells and June Barr, both of Ogdensburg; and 19 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in John O. Roth Funeral Home, Morgan and William streets, City of Tonawanda. Interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton.
