ALDEN SUPERVISOR FILES TENTATIVE 1998 BUDGET

Alden Supervisor Richard Savage has submitted a tentative 1998 budget that calls for spending $3,233,853, about $266,000 more than 1997 appropriations. The combined townwide and special district amounts to be raised by taxes is $1,963,524, about $182,000 more than the current amount. Tax rates were not listed in the budget summary.

The budget will be reviewed at a public hearing scheduled for 8 p.m. Nov. 3, said Town Clerk Dorothy Bycina.

The listed appropriations are: general fund, townwide, $1,102,845, up $76,000; general fund, outside village, $130,031, up $7,000; highway fund, $515,397, down nearly $400; Fire Protection District, $575,885, down $10,000; Lighting District, $99,900, up $2,900; Refuse Collection District, $319,000, up $14,000; Water District 3, $238,975, down $,000; Water District 4, $150,000, a first-time appropriation; Sewer District 1, $36,243, up $3,000; and Sewer District 2, $46,415, up $4,500.

The Savage budget proposes these 1998 salaries: supervisor, $22,198; councilmen, $3,068; justice, $19,125; clerk, $33,507; highway superintendent, $39,120; assessor, $22,515; building inspector, $36,629; and tax receiver, $20,644.
