TEEN'S MOTHER FINDS BABY HIDDEN IN DAUGHTER'S ROOM

A teen-ager who gave birth in secret hid her newborn baby in her bedroom for 2 1/2 weeks while she continued going to high school, Suffolk County police said.

The teen's mother, Stephanie Clark, found the 4-pound infant in her daughter's bedroom Tuesday, said Detective Sgt. John Twiname. Shanta Clark, 17, had not told anyone of her pregnancy or of the baby boy's birth at home on Sept. 21, he said.

She had been feeding him but left him alone while she went to school from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day, Twiname said.

The newborn was in guarded condition in University Medical Center at Stony Brook, he said.

Shanta Clark was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, a misdemeanor. She was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court on Nov. 28.
