Robert F. Haley, 63, of Grand Island, a retired Air National Guardsman, died Monday (Oct. 6, 1997) in his home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Seneca Vocational High School. He was a graduate of Erie Community College and Niagara County Community College. He also attended Buffalo State College.
He served for 37 years in the Air National Guard, retiring in 1990 with the rank of chief master sergeant.
He received a Bronze Star during his year of service in the Vietnam War.
A civilian electronics technician for the 107th Air Refueling Wing at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base, he served in many supervisory positions. At the time of his retirement, he was an electronics integrated systems general foreman.
During the 1980s, he was co-owner of Super Skate, a roller-skating arena in North Buffalo.
For the past 10 years, he operated Photography by Haley, which specialized in wedding photography.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, the former Mary Ellen Crandall; four daughters, Debra Haley-Weyer and Jennifer Haley-Lupp, both of Kenmore, Linda Lonczak of North Tonawanda and Michelle; a brother, James of Beaver Dams; and five grandchildren.
Services with full military honors will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in Lester H. Wedekindt Funeral Home, 3290 Delaware Ave., Town of Tonawanda.
