Betty Shabazz, the widow of Malcolm X, left an estate worth at least $700,000, two of her daughters say in court papers.
In a petition to Surrogate's Court, Ilyasah and Malaak Shabazz estimated the value of Ms. Shabazz's real estate at $300,000 and her personal property at $400,000. The holdings were not detailed and no will was filed.
"What is stated in the petition represents our current knowledge of things," lawyer Leroy Wilson Jr. said Tuesday. The daughters want to serve as co-administrators of the estate, which would allow them to get detailed information from banks and creditors.
Ms. Shabazz, 61, died June 23 of burns suffered in a June 1 fire set by her grandson, Malcolm, in her Yonkers apartment. Malcolm is serving an 18-month sentence in Massachusetts.
