TRUCK THEFT CHARGED AFTER CHASE

A Jamestown man was sent to Chautauqua County Jail Sunday after he allegedly stole a truck and led sheriff's officers on a chase, striking two buildings.

Deputies said Kristopher A. Russ, 23, of 953 E. Second St. stole the truck and several sets of keys from the Jamestown Post Journal Building. The truck was seen at about 1 a.m. on Route 394 in Mayville, where it hit the front porch of the Lakeview Hotel, damaging the building.

Officers said one of the truck's tires went flat in the crash but Russ drove on, until a DWI patrol spotted the truck on Honeysette Road. Russ reportedly tried to elude officers and pulled into a private driveway, but he missed a curve and hit the rear of a house.

The Sheriff's Department charged Russ with felony DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, felony aggravated unlicensed operation, possession of stolen property and a number of traffic counts. Further charges are pending from the Jamestown Police Department.

Russ was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail.
