NEWSTEAD SETS SESSION ON HOLMES' SPENDING PLAN

The Newstead Town Board will meet in a special work session at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 to discuss Supervisor Donald C. Holmes 1998 tentative spending plan of $2,280,513.

The budget proposal including all funds and special districts, represents a slight decrease in spending from this year.

Residents outside the Village of Akron would pay $2.73 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, up from $2.69. The proposed town tax rate in the village would be $1.64, a 5-cent hike.

Under the supervisor's proposed budget released Sept. 22, the amount to be raised by taxes is $1,056,245, up from $1,014,860.

Residents outside the village will pay about $8 more a year for town refuse service.

The Town Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget later this month and will vote on it in early November.
