Lackawanna residents are invited to participate in National Red Ribbon Week, especially on Oct. 22, to combat abuse of alcohol and other drugs, Mayor Kathleen M. Staniszewski has announced.

The event, sponsored locally by Western New York United Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse, will involve residents standing along South Park Avenue wearing red, symbolizing a united front, from 5 to 6 p.m.

Groups wishing to participate are asked to contact Marcia Cullens of the Lackawanna Youth Board at 827-6456.

Events will continue through the week of Oct. 23-31.
